Reduce Stress! Maximize Health! Increase Longevity! Lose Weight! No Gym!

Dr. Mehmet Oz, M.D., heart surgeon and the star of the TV show "The Doctor OZ Show" stated "If you want to be healthy and live to 100, do Qigong."  Qigong (Chee Kung) is an ancient Chinese mind/body/breath coordination art. Clinical trials have shown that Qigong is helpful in the treatment of about 200 diseases, ranging from the common cold to cancer.  For example, one scientific survey of aged practitioners revealed that they were in good health and appeared younger than a second group of non-practitioners. Their average blood pressure was normal and 93% had normal hearing and good memories. The non-practicing elders had a higher average blood pressure, 25% had hypertension, 50% had vision problems, 76% had hearing problems and 35% had lost their ability to work. After doing Qigong for 5 months, 52% of them recovered some of their working ability and made other physiological improvements.

Qigong for health is not strenuous requires little coordination and flexibility.  It is easier to learn and practice than Tai Chi, Yoga or Pilates.  Qigong can be done lying, sitting or standing.  Thus, it is ideal for seniors and the physically challenged.  It can be done anywhere, at any time, and requires no special space, clothing or equipment.  Qigong is practiced by millions of people worldwide.

Tai Chi for Seniors, Health and Self Defense

This class is for serious students that want to learn classical Tai Chi and not made-up, new-age dances devised for amusement and profit.  On the average it takes 5 or 6 years, to master the classical forms and the underlying theory.  However, the theoretical basis is not necessary for students interested only in health; also self-defense need not be practiced, considerably shortening the learning time.

Some basic Chinese medicine is covered in order to understand the real benefits of the form and how each posture affects internal organs and body parts for health, as well as self-defense.  The hidden acupoints in each move of the form, which are used to incapacitate an opponent or improve health, will be taught.

Martial push hands consisting of punching, strikes, throws, kicks, etc. is practiced and not the modern, useless pushing forms.  Other two person self-defense forms, such as, small and large San Sau, Da Lu, etc. are practiced.  Similar forms are practiced using classical Chinese weapons such as: sword, staff; spear.

Self Defense: Praying Mantis Kung Fu

Defend yourself, even if you are weak, by using the opponent's strength against him by studying Mantis Kung Fu, like Bruce Lee.  Since it is not a sport, all ranges, distances, and situations in fighting are considered:  (1) punching, kicking, striking, clawing; attacking nerves and acupoints, (2)  classical Chinese weapons in all combat situations (armed and unarmed); (3)  Chin Na: seizing techniques such as joint locks, throwing, pinching etc.
