Mission:

Thankful for Gods gifts.  We will go as one to share our blessings with all.

About Us:

We are disciples of Christ, responding in faith to the call of the Holy Spirit to carry out God's mission in the world.

St Stephen is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

History:

On August 20, 1872, a group of Danish Lutherans met in Perth Amboy. They voted to organize the St. Stephen Danish Lutheran Church.Services were held in Danish . The continued growth of the congregation made it apparent that a larger church was necessary, so a brick church was completed in 1896 (and became one of Perth Amboy's most easily recognized landmarks) with a seating capacity of 250.

Dual services were held in Danish and English beginning in 1941. Another church building was built in 1947 on the corner of First & Pleasant Avenues in Edison (Site of the Clara Barton Library today).

The ground breaking of our present buildings were held on May 15, 1960 and the formal dedication service was held on October 9, 1960.

Since the inception of St. Stephen, the congregation has enjoyed the leadership of 23 pastors. Celebrating our past can shape the future.
