Mission
The Texas Boys Choir was founded in 1946 as one man's mission to provide any boy, regardless of socio-economic or ethnic background a structured environment for the development of world-class artists. Essential to this development is the artistic training in an accredited academic institution; experienced teachers instill the qualities of self-discipline, self-confidence, decorum, patriotism, and leadership.
The choir is dedicated to being an active member of the local arts communities through performances and by the development of boys who as adults will perpetuate an appreciation for the arts in their community. The choir also will provide the opportunity for national and international performances as a professional touring organization.
The Texas Boys Choir was founded in 1946 as one man's mission to provide any boy, regardless of socio-economic or ethnic background a structured environment for the development of a world-class performing choir of boys. Essential to this development is the artistic training in an accredited academic institution; experienced teachers instill the qualities of self-discipline, self-confidence, decorum, patriotism, and leadership. For the past 60 years, TBC has been a publicly supported 501(c) 3 professional organization and educational institution dedicated to fostering the talents of gifted young men. The choir performs locally, nationally and internationally, both for fees and for community service purposes. Various music and performing arts companies and corporations as well as individual donors sponsor the Texas Boys Choir.
The Texas Boys Choir continues in the tradition of European church choirs, with boys beginning their vocal training at a young age. The TBC further develops its vocal training through the use of the changing voices. The choir draws heavily on the sacred tradition of performing many works from the early Renaissance and Baroque periods. Also included in most performances are American favorites and music of other cultures and countries. TBC continues to be an important part of the North Texas Arts Community.
