Ministry:We demonstrate God's love through service.

History:
The First Presbyterian Church of Greenlawn was established in 1872 with 42 members. The cornerstone of the present sanctuary was laid in 1961. The church is located at 497 Pulaski Road in Greenlawn, New York. Greenlawn is a hamlet within the Town of Huntington on the north shore of Long Island about 35 miles east of New York City. Our Church is a Christ-centered, Bible-believing congregation with a current active membership of 175. Winter attendance at the Sunday service averages 120. Sunday school for two-year-olds through sixth grade has 48 registrants; the youth group (junior and senior highs) averages 28 attendees, and the adult Sunday School at 9:30AM averages 16. The Sunday morning service would best be described as traditional in style, with the recent introduction of some contemporary singing at the beginning of the service. The goal of every service is to worship God and bring each attendee to a closer personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. A challenge to know our Lord in a close personal way, i.e. an altar call, is a part of many services. The preaching is biblical, personal and Christ-centered. There is the opportunity for individual expression of prayer concerns, praise and personal testimony during each service. There is a brief message for the children after which they leave for Sunday School. In addition to the Sunday service, we have a 7:30 AM Wednesday prayer meeting, which has an average attendance of 12. A men's Faith at Work share group has been meeting regularly on Saturday morning for over fifteen years. Two Presbyterian Women's Circles meet monthly. During Lent, there are Wednesday evening Soup Suppers, a simple cooperative soup-and-bread meal, followed by a half-hour of worship. There is a very active prayer chain of approximately 30 members who pray for personal concerns of the congregation.

We are blessed to have a very active youth director who is striving to build up an active youth ministry, an area in which we have been lacking in prior years.Vacation Bible School has been an annual program for many years, where attendance has varied between 50 and 80 participants. Approximately one half the attendees are from among our non-Presbyterian friends in the surrounding community. An active music program exists within the church with both a paid organist as well as a paid choir director. The current choir consists of approximately 10 volunteer members. We are a mission-oriented congregation, supporting a number of local and worldwide mission projects, both Presbyterian and non-Presbyterian. Partners to Potential is a new church program, sponsored by Youth Guidance, to assist some of the disadvantaged children within the community in improving their reading skills and to present the Gospel to them.Session has established a number of Elder-led committees, with membership from the Deacons and from the congregation at large, to conduct the business of the church. They include Worship and Music, Christian Education, Congregational Care, Financial Management, Buildings and Grounds,Mission/Evangelism/Growth, and Personnel. We also have an active Board of Deacons.
