60 Whitney Road Suite 9 & 10
201-848-7001

History:

The King Centre for the Performing Arts was founded in 1970 by Nancy King in Ringwood with 305 students. From the beginning, the King centre always stressed the best in dance education even offering special workshops with among others Melissa Hayden, Lisa Danias, Charles Kelley, Judy Ann Bassing, and Frank Hatchett, as well as cast members from many Broadway shows.

Early on, Nancy also created a performing group for the King Centre’s students, the New Generation Dance Company now known as American Youth Dance Company. The King Centre is not only a competitive school but through the years has performed its own production of The Nutcracker and toured around the region and even around the world. Tours have taken the students to Romania, an exchange tour to Belgium, Paris and southern France, and another exchange tour to England, Scotland and Wales.
