Mission:

The mission of the Shaker Regional School District is to develop a community of lifelong learners, critical thinkers and responsible, productive citizens

About Us:
The Shaker Regional School District is a two-town cooperative school district established by vote of the pre-existing school districts of Belmont and Canterbury. It includes four schools (two elementary, one middle school, and one high school) on four different sites. The district is located in central New Hampshire, the fastest growing part of the state. The Shaker District is part of the Supervisory Administrative Unit #80 which has an office in Belmont.

The population of the district communities more than doubled in the period from 1971 to 1990. The wave of immigration spreading from south to north in New Hampshire varied with the strength of the economy and slowed by 1988-89. 2000 census estimates indicates a total district population of approximately 8,695. It is expected that because of growth in numbers of children already living in the two towns, the foundation has been laid for significant increases in school enrollment over the next 10-15 years.

As September 1, 2002, the district has a total school population of 1530, with Belmont Elementary (K-4) enrollment at 452 and Canterbury Elementary (K-5) enrollment at 142. There are 452 students presently enrolled in the Middle School (Grades 5-8), and the High School has 484 students in grades 9 - 12.

The Shaker Regional School District recently completed a significant construction project that allows all of our schools to operate with enrollments under the building capacity for each school. A substantial addition and renovations to Canterbury Elementary and a second addition to Belmont Elementary were voted in 1990 as the first phase of bringing all facilities up to capacity and code. A new high school opened in September of 1998, and significant renovations were done to the old high school to make it into a suitable middle school. The Memorial building, built as an elementary school in 1956, now serves as offices for the Shaker Regional School District administrative team. The district is very proud of the facilities and encourages community members to visit the schools and see the changes that have occurred.
