The purpose of The Worship Center being gathered together as a church is to live out the reality of the following passage: "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." (John 4:23,24)

It is our desire to be the kind of worshipers the Father desires. In order to do this, first of all, our worship must be spiritual. There are two dynamics in view here: our worship must go beyond how we think or feel at any given moment and become an act of our wills because it is pleasing to God. "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship." (Romans 12:1)

The second dynamic has to do with the Holy Spirit: "… be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Ephesians 5:18-20.) It is the presence of the Spirit of God in us that will produce the kind of worship that is pleasing to God. We need to be sensitive to His leading and direction.

We must also worship according to the truth. There are three basic truths that we must keep before us as we approach God in worship:

The first one has to do with the path of faith and is based on John 14:6— "Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ " Our approach to the Father must come through the person and work of Jesus Christ. Accepting the sacrifice of God the Son on the cross has now opened up a relationship for us with God the Father.

The second truth has to do with the act of faith. Hebrews 11:6 says, "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." We must press past our fears and doubts and decide we are going to believe that God is who He says He is. If we do, we will not be disappointed. We will be rewarded.

The third truth is from James 4:8- "Come near to God and he will come near to you." This is the reward of faith: the nearness of God. He is real. He will make Himself known to us in the reality of our every day lives.

Through worship, we come to experience the reality of the Living God. All that we need for our lives, our service in the church, and our ministry to our hurting world will flow out of this reality.
