One Town Square


The Union County Historical Society was established February 11, 1976 as a non-profit organization open to all persons interested in the history and heritage of Union County, Georgia. The goals for the organization were and are:

Restore the old Union County Courthouse; Establish a museum of county history at both the Historic Courthouse and the Mountain Life Center; Publish a history of the county; Promote interest in local history in the schools; Hold meetings of interest.

Stopped in for Friday night free music at the Courthouse on the Square. Usually bluegrass with a little country thrown in. Free evening but they will have a donation jar and you'll want to give. Starts promptly, don't be late. They draw a good crowd, especially as the summer tourist season builds. Show up late and you may be front and center in the jury box.

My toddler met Santa and Mrs.Claus here, which were the most classic, realistic ones I have ever seen! Pictures with them were free and taken professionally, and the Christmas parade held afterwards was very safe, special, and memorable. I will go again next year!!

Super friendly people, convenient hours, so much loving care preserving artifacts, incredible genealogy room! Music concerts on friday nights, neat museums. Free!
