United Field Ornithologists of Roswell is a club of like-minded people interested in observing and studying birds in their natural habitats. We do this mainly by organized field trips and educational monthly meetings.

In addition, we support other organizations in protecting our natural heritage. Our members participate in many community service projects, including volunteer field work at Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

We plan yearly events to such places as:

  • Lessor Prairie Chicken lek
  • Sandia Peak for the Rosy Finches (Grey-Crowned, Black, Brown-Capped)
  • Bosque Del Apache
  • Bitter Lake NWR Dragonfly Festival
  • Southeast Arizona

In April, we held our 1st Annual Birding Festival, visiting 10 birding spots, some near, some over 100 miles away. Groups logged more than 100 species, and at least 747 individual birds. "Dr. Avian Guano" provided evening entertainment, along with close-up viewings of a Great Horned Owl and a Chihuahuan Raven from the Spring River Zoo.
