Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church

188 Upper Tinicum Church Road
610-294-9391

History:

The congregation at Upper Tinicum was founded in 1851. The initial organization of the congregation was guided by the “missionary” efforts of Reverend John Willox. He served a “union” church (Lutheran and Reformed) in Riegelsville, Pennsylvania. He gathered English speaking persons in the Bridgeton and Tinicum township areas. Enough Lutherans welcomed his efforts so that a building could be begun, but only in cooperation with persons of a Reformed congregation. The church’s cornerstone thus reads, “Upper Tinicum Union Church.” This union association lasted until the early 1960’s. In September 1962 the church shifted to an all Lutheran membership. UTLC has maintained this fellowship to the present under the current guidance of Pastor Tim Taylor.

Mission:

The mission of this church is to worship God in proclamation of the Word; carry out Christ's Great Commission; nurture its members; and manifest the unity given to the people of God by sharing the love of Christ.
