Lake Minnetonka VFW Post #5919 was mustered on November 10, 1993 in Excelsior, Minnesota with the focus upon helping area Lake Minnetonka veterans and their families. The Post's website was established in 1999.

Upon mustering, Post 5919 had 28 members. By the second year it had 129 members and 214 by the third year. Today, all 245 Post Members are Life Members.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States began in 1898, after the Spanish-American War. The VFW is the oldest major veterans service organization in the United States with nearly three million members.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is chartered by the U.S. Congress. Each VFW Post is a seperate 501 c 19 non-profit corporation.

The Purpose of the VFW Corporation

The purpose of this corporation shall be:

Fraternal
Patriotic
Historic
Educational

To preserve and strenghten comradeship among its members; to assist worthy comrades; to perpetuate the memory and history of our dead, and to assist their widows and orphans; to maintain true allegiance to the Government of the United States of America, fidelity to its Constitution and laws; to foster true patriotism; to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom and to preserve and defend the United States from all her enemies, whomsoever.
