Our Mission
Vista Community Clinic’s mission is to provide quality health care and health education to the community focusing on those facing economic, social or cultural barriers.

Our History
Located in the cities of Vista and Oceanside in northern San Diego County, Vista Community Clinic (VCC) is a private, nonprofit health care center. It was founded in 1972 to serve people who experience social, cultural or economic barriers to health care. Conceived in the days of free street clinics, VCC's first home was donated space in the local dog pound. Volunteer doctors and nurses cared for people who could not otherwise obtain health care. Pharmaceutical representatives donated drugs and supplies.

In 1974, the Clinic received its first governmental funding and moved to an old church building. The number of people the Clinic served continued to grow. In 1980, we saw more than 8,000 patients in 16,000 visits annually. The decade of the 1980's was a period of tremendous population growth in North County; Vista and Oceanside doubled their population. The Vale Terrace Branch site was built for Vista Community Clinic in 1986. In 1988, Vista Community Clinic opened the Tri-City Branch on Thunder Drive across from Tri-City Medical Center.

The number of visits increased 20% a year, to 51,900 in 1990 when the Health Promotion Center was established, and in 1992, the Women's Center opened. It then became clear that the Tri-City Branch could no longer house all the needed services, so a larger facility was secured. Vista Community Clinic-West opened in 1995 as a collaboration with Tri-City Medical Center in a small renovated house on Horne Street in downtown Oceanside.

Although the population growth has somewhat moderated, the number of visits has continued to increase. To accommodate this growth, the 30,000 square foot primary care clinic and corporate headquarters opened on Vale Terrace in downtown Vista in December of 1997. Today it houses the Women's Center, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, and Teen Clinic on the first floor; Administration, Family Medicine and the Dental Clinic on the second floor. The Health Promotion Center now is housed in a separate building directly behind the Vale Terrace clinic.

In July, 2000, Vista Community Clinic opened a newly renovated 5,100 sq. ft. Pier View Way facility and in November 2003 a 2000 sq ft. facility was opened on North River Road; both facilities are located in Oceanside. The Vista Community Clinic-West satellite site was renovated for prenatal and teen services and re-opened for business in February, 2001.

In 2005, Vista Community Clinic served 45,955 patients in 185,421 patient visits and made over 120,000 health education contacts. Today, Executive Director Barbara Mannino administers a staff of approximately 400 and a budget of approximately $19 million, overseeing 89 governmental contracts.
