W. G. Rice Elementary School

805 Holly Pike
717-258-6484

Established in 1961 as a second elementary school for the students in the South Middleton School District, the school has developed as the district has grown. As a result of this continuing growth, the school has experienced an expansion in 1968 and a major renovation/expansion in 1995. We are located four miles south west of Boiling Springs near Mt. Holly Springs. Students attending our school are the only district students attending school outside the main Boiling Springs campus. The student population is approximately 630 students with eight classes each of kindergarten and first grade and seven classes each of second and third grades. During a six-day cycle, all students attend two classes each of art, music and physical education. Additionally, our students participate in remedial and special education programs when an identified need exists.

Started as a small community school, the W. G. Rice Elementary School has maintained its family atmosphere over the years. The faculty is dedicated to our students and their families. Together we endeavor to promote learning as a way-of-life where all are expected to perform to their greatest potential. We also strive to develop a level of respect within our students that will allow them to be responsible citizens in the future. The South Middleton PTO is an organization which is alive and well. Serving all elementary students (Grades K – 5), it sponsors the annual school fair, supports field trip expenses, conducts a Breakfast with Santa, and has a five-day Secret Santa Shop. They also support classroom activities by providing financial support to classroom teachers where needed. Major funding initiatives are our annual Artist-In-Resident program and playground equipment purchases.
