Founded in 1911, the Washington County Historical Society has had a significant role in preserving historic sites, artifacts and archival records for Washington County, Maryland.

Key sites include: Fort Frederick, built 1756; the first Monument honoring George Washington, completed July 4, 1827; the Hager House, built 1739; the only Monument to War Correspondents, built 1890s; the Dunker Church and Burnside Bridge, parts of Antietam National Civil War Battlefield Park; Maryland Heights, part of Harpers Ferry National Park; the Miller House Museum, built 1825 and our headquarters; and Beaver Creek School, built 1904.
