The Waterford Historical Society is an active group dedicated to collecting, protecting, and preserving the history of Waterford for the interest and education of present and future generations.  We have a research library and many artifacts and displays for community interest.  We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that gets no funding from local, state, or federal levels.  We rely on Waterford Community members and businesses for funding.

History of Historical Society :

The Waterford Township Historical and Preservation Society, now located in the Fish Hatchery Park, was formed in 1975.   The group met in the historic church, built in 1869, on Andersonville Road.  They had the church designated as a Historic site on the national level and had the section of Andersonville Road from Dixie to the railroad tracks designated as the Historical District of Waterford. They became inactive from 1980 until Sept. 1990.  In 1991, the first active year, new by-laws were written, dues were collected and an election was held.  They started with 10 members.  As of January 2008, we have over 200 members.  We now have a house, log cabin, play house, Grand Trunk Caboose, depot, hardware store, Jacober's General Store, carriage house, outhouse, print shop and water tower. The Hatchery House, built in 1919 and restored to that era, serves as a museum and headquarters. Upstairs we have two display rooms, a research library, and a room for accessioning.
