Watertown, MA is a small city that borders Belmont, Cambridge, Boston, Newton and Waltham. It was established in 1630 and at one time encompassed most of these surrounding cities and towns. Over the years Watertown has decreased in size to its current four square miles and has a population density of over 8000 people per sq. mile.

The City's official name is "The City Known as The Town Of Watertown", but is generally referred to as the "Town of Watertown".

Early fire service consisted of volunteers until 1855, when the The Watertown Fire Department was established under state guidelines.

In 1959, the firefighters of the Department formed Local 1347 of the International Association of Firefighters.

We currently have 92 career firefighters that operate from three stations. Four alternating groups provide fire prevention/education, fire protection, emergency medical services, HazMat response, confined space rescue, and ice/water rescue.
