Watson United Methodist Church

201 East Street

In July of 1878 land and a house were purchased at a cost of $500.00. The pastor was the Rev. J.A. Showalter. The congregation then set about raising $1,300.00 to build the church building. One year later under the direction of the Rev. Issac Chevington the building was dedicated with sufficient funds to pay off all indebtedness.

Through the years the Church continued to grow and improvements were made to both the Church and the Parsonage.

The Church for many years supported a Chinese Boy who would send a wooden box of tea that was served at the Church.

In 1963 the Methodist Church and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church became a yoked congregation being served by Lay Speakers and Local Pastors from the Methodist Church.

The parsonage was sold in 1965.

Today, the Watson United Methodist Church continues to hold Worship Services every Sunday morning. The Church still shares a relationship with the few remaining members of the Watson Cumberland Presbyterian Church and is served by a Pastor appointed to the Rock Port and Watson United Methodist Churches.
