Our Mission:

To bring people to Jesus, helping them connect to His Church, grow to be Christ-like, serve one another and reach out to others, in order to glorify God.

Our History:

In 1990, Pastor Tom and Sue Walker were serving as youth pastors at Northway Christian Community. While effective in youth ministry and respected in the community, they felt God directing them to a new adventure. For some time, they had been praying and talking about planting a church in the airport area of Pittsburgh. Later, while on a staff retreat with Pastor Jay Passavant, the door was opened when Pastor Jay expressed his desire to see Northway start churches around Pittsburgh. From that initial conversation, the process of beginning West Ridge Christian Community had begun.

Pastor Tom immediately began researching the needs of people in the western part of our city and, with his wife, began to lay the foundation for a new church in the airport area. While all this was going on, unbeknown to Tom and Sue, a group of people had been gathering asking God for a church like Northway to begin in this area. By the spring of 1991, the two groups had come together and together they began praying and planning.

By the fall of that same year, monthly Sunday night services were being held and many from the community were visiting, curious of this new church. To help start this new church, a group of "pioneers' were prayed for and then sent out from Northway Christian Community. January 1992 marked the official beginning of West Ridge with the first Sunday morning service being held at the Royce Hotel.

For six years, West Ridge existed without a permanent home. Then in 1998, the property at 100 Gorwood Drive became available. Through a series of God ordained events, the people of West Ridge were able to purchase the property, consisting of a warehouse building and thirteen acres of undeveloped property. Three years later ten adjacent acres and a house were purchased, bringing the total ownership to twenty-three acres.

With excitement and anticipation, the people at West Ridge continue to press ahead in all that God has for them. With an emphasis on children and youth, young families find a positive and God honoring place to raise their children. Through relevant teaching and contemporary worship, people from all walks of life can connect to God. West Ridge's goal is to honor God by helping people know him and then live out their God given purpose. West Ridge is all about relationships, first with God, then with one another.

While the past years have been exciting, we believe the years ahead will be filled with greater challenges and greater impact. West Ridge is more than just a church in the community; it is our aim to be a community church that is actively involved in the community and in impacting the lives of people.
