About Us:

Winchester is situated in the northwest corner of Vilas County. It was founded and developed in 1902 as a logging town on the Northwest shore of South Turtle Lake. The humming sawmill, shingle mill and general store, the center of community life in those early years, vanished after the timber was cut and community activity gave way to being a place to unwind and relax and enjoy a true northwoods vacation. Now the thousands of acres of forested land, the many beautiful lakes, the unequalled scenery, the great hunting and fishing make the Winchester area the real Northwoods of Wisconsin.
