2 Centennial Drive Suite 4A
978-775-3705

The Y of Metro North encompasses four different branch locations (Lynn Y, Melrose Family Y, Saugus Family Y, and Torigian Family Y) as well as two additional NAEYC accredited child care facilities (106 Main Street in Melrose and 39 Pleasant Street in Stoneham) and a gymnastics center in Melrose. While there are common threads that unite all branch operations of the Y of Metro North, each program site is unique and offers programs and services that respond to their individual community needs and interests.

OUR HISTORY

The YMCA, founded in London, England in 1844 as the Young Men’s Christian Association, was organized to “help people develop character in their daily lives”. The YMCA movement spread fast and in 1851, reached the United States. The YMCA on Huntington Avenue in Boston was the first YMCA organized in the United States.

The YMCA of Metro North was established in 2012 when two of the oldest YMCA’s in the country, the Greater Lynn Y (founded in 1870) and the Melrose Y (founded in 1890), united to join resources and enhance services to the communities of Lynn, Melrose, Peabody, Saugus, Lynnfield, Nahant, Stoneham and Revere. In 2011, The YMCA of Metro North served over 47,000 individuals, provided over $1,088,000 in financial assistance for memberships and programs and became one of the largest not-for-profit employers on the North Shore.
