Description:
The mission of the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center is to establish and operate a performing arts center in the Livermore Valley to promote and encourage the arts and enhance public appreciation, enjoyment and understanding of the arts.

About The Project

Founded in 1998, the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center organization, a 501(c)(3), was selected by the City of Livermore to facilitate the construction and operation of a performing arts center in downtown Livermore. A central component of the redevelopment of downtown, the Performing Arts Center will bring world-class entertainment, visual arts and arts education programming to the Tri-Valley. It will facilitate the transformation of Livermore into the cultural center of eastern Alameda County.

Located at the heart of the city, the Performing Arts Center will be built in two phases. The first phase will house a 500-seat theater for Tri-Valley groups and selected national performers. It features a large, welcoming lobby for accommodating art exhibits, meetings, and events. Overlooking the Park Plaza, this theater will be the cornerstone of the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center.

The larger 1800-seat theater, to be built in a second phase, is designed for national touring groups and will be the largest Bay Area performing arts theater east of Oakland. This theater will serve as a “roadhouse” for touring regional, national and international performers. The theater’s large lobby will also accommodate art exhibits, meetings, and events.

The Tri-Valley is one of the fastest growing regions in California; as we build houses to meet the needs of our growing populations, so must we build the institutions to meet their cultural and educational needs. Working together, the Performing Arts Center and the City of Livermore have created a private/public partnership that will make this vision a reality. Livermore’s economic consultants view the Performing Arts Center as a force for the economic growth of the city and the region. It will serve the 300,000 residents, including 40,000 school-age children, of the Tri-Valley. The Center and the programs associated with it will have a broad and long-term impact on the community.

Quality Of The Venue

The 30,000 square foot, 500-seat theaters’ stage house will have the flexibility to stage theatrical and operatic performances, as well as both acoustic and amplified concerts. It has state-of-the-art accoutrements to make it a particularly attractive venue to arts groups and speakers, and corporations seeking to rent a facility. The 3,000 sq. ft. lobby can be reserved for social functions, tradeshows or other group programs. Concessions areas will be available for the sale of food and beverage. A box office is included in the theater.

The Presenting Program

The 500-seat theater presenting program will include twelve national and international touring artists from a number of different genres based on the demographics of the community. Commercial attractions such as The Lettermen or The Four Freshmen would serve a traditional arts center demographic. Niche acts such as Leo Kottke or David Sedaris could also generate full houses in the Livermore market. The Peking Acrobats or “It’s Magic” would provide family entertainment for enthusiastic audiences. Jazz singer Sarah Gazarek or country music performer Miranda Lambert, up and coming stars, would find their first audiences in a 500-seat venue. Chamber music such as the Emerson Quartet or The Five Browns would also be viable in this venue. All of these artists would be presented by the Performing Arts Center and would create positive income streams for the institution.
