One of the literal meanings of ‘hijama’ is “sucking” in Arabic, and is the Islamic term used for what is known as “Wet Cupping”. Small, superficial cuts are made on the skin that was being dry cupped. The suction pressure under the cup would then stimulate the toxic or unhealthy blood to trickle out and cleanse the diseased or inflamed area of pain on the body.
