Baltimore County, Md. (May 19, 2022) -- Community College of Baltimore County has named Mikhaela Frondozo as its 2022 President’s Distinguished Graduate award recipient.  The award, which comes with a $2,500 transfer scholarship and the opportunity to serve as commencement speaker, is given annually to a student who has shown exemplary leadership and a commitment to help others. Frondozo, will be presented with the award during CCBC’s Commencement ceremony, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 4 at CCBC Essex.

CCBC Essex served as Frondozo’s home campus. While taking a full load of classes, she also managed to work part-time and later secured an internship with Delegate Pat Young at the Maryland General Assembly. Described by her professors as “exceedingly diligent and earnest,” her excellence was recognized nationally when she was named a semi-finalist for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.

Dedicated and focused on her studies, Frondozo managed to complete her degree within two years; yet, she packed a lot into her two-year experience. Despite facing some struggles with online learning brought on by the coronavirus, she persevered and found ways to stay engaged and get involved.

“Initially, I felt discouraged because it was difficult to create meaningful connections learning virtually,” said Frondozo. “However, once I joined the Honors Program, I began to grow as a student.”

Not only did Frondozo join the Honors Program, she also became a member of Phi Theta Kappa and served as an executive board member of the Student Government Association. Additionally, she participated in the Mellon’s Scholars program, an enriched academic opportunity that values research, learning and experience.

Frondozo attributes her college success to the great opportunities CCBC provides for academic as well as personal growth. Overall, she says it has been an amazing experience.

“My two years at CCBC seemed to pass within a blink of an eye,” said Frondozo. “Yet, my experience has been unforgettable. I consider it an immense honor to be a part of the CCBC family.”

Frondozo graduates from CCBC with a 3.93 GPA and a degree in General Studies. Her plans are to transfer to a four-year college and earn a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Her ultimate goal is to go to law school and earn her Juris Doctor degree.
