Dr. Stacey Radin Helps Girls Rescue Puppies

All Hero Nominee AmericanTowns Hero

Dr. Stacey Radin is dedicated to helping girls and women develop to their full potential. As a psychologist, she is passionate about her work with adolescent girls and wanted to find a way to tie her research into women, leadership and power into her volunteer work with animal shelters. What Dr. Radin discovered, working in tandem with her son, is that while she knew there was a place for young adults in the animal rescue community, they were not being welcome or fully utilized. That's when the idea for their non-profit organization called Unleashed was born. Unleashed is successfully connecting girls with projects they feel good about, specifically working to rescue puppies. And, along the way the girls learn valuable social skills, including confidence, compassion and leadership. Thanks to Dr. Radin, who is a member of the United Nations Working Group on Girls; a task force examining global issues related to girls and women, Unleashed has already made a positive impact on the girls who have gone through the program since 2010. And they've helped place quite a few puppies in permanent homes as well! The formal mission of Unleashed is "to "unleash" the power and potential in girls, empowering them to be social change agents, using animal rescue as their leadership laboratory." The tagline on the website reads: "Changing one girl, one dog and one community at a time." Do you know someone who took an idea and turned it into a win/win/win? Nominate them for next week's AmericanTown's Hero.
