Larry Jordan: Frees driver seconds before vehicle explodes.

AmericanTowns Hero

It was like a scene from a movie. The truck exploded, just seconds after the driver was carried to safety. Larry Jordan knew he had to get away from the truck in a hurry, just like he knew, instinctively, there was trouble at home when he saw the traffic backing up that day. What he found when he got to his driveway was a truck turned on its side in a ditch. The driver was trapped inside and the vehicle was filling with smoke. Jordan knew he had to act fast. Two men at the scene ahead of him were working with a crowbar to let some air into the truck, for the trapped man to breathe. Jordan decided to work on the door handle and even though it was locked, he managed to open the door and free the driver, then carry him out of harm's way, just moments before the truck exploded. We've seen stories of heroic efforts before, by nurses and others trained to react in emergency situations. Rebecca Stivers came to the rescue when she happened upon a car crash and Lisa Lyver bolted to the playing field when she sensed the young athlete was having a heart attack, not an asthma attack. It was Logan Hearn's junior lifeguard course that helped him save his brother's life when the toddler fell into the pool. All of their actions in those critical first moments made the difference between life and death for the people in their care. We are happy to tell the story of an amazing rescue, just in the nick of time, thanks to Larry Jordan, husband, father, new grandfather and this week's hero!
