City's 4th annual Climate Fest  

Our community is taking action to address climate change and we have a lot to celebrate this year!  

Dates of Climate Fest events are as follows...

9/17 - Climate Fest Bus Shelters

Local artists will decorate three bus shelters to help celebrate Fare Free. These shelters will be available for viewing after 5 p.m. on Sunday, 9/17 through the end of the day on Saturday, 9/23. They are located at Boyrum St. next to Hy-Vee, Court St. next to the Court Hill Park trail entrance, and on Muscatine Ave next to Walgreens.

9/18 - Walk and Roll Jam, 3:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at the downtown Interchange in front of the Old Capitol Mall

Live music, giveaways, and more! Come thank a bus driver and grab some goodies to help us celebrate the City going Fare Free!

9/19 – Speaking of…LIVE! Doors open at 5:30, discussion at 6 p.m. at The Green House

Join Recycling Coordinator, Jane Wilch, and the Climate Action Coordinator, Sarah Gardner as they discuss resources for renters. There will be a door prize for one lucky participant!

9/20 – Celebration at Big Grove, 5-8 p.m.

Join the Climate Action and Outreach Division and several organizations from around Iowa to celebrate all our successes this year! Talk to local organizations about their services/activities and grab a Goldie pint glass while supplies last! Big Grove will also be offering two tours at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. for a look behind the scenes.

9/21 – Pollinator Drive-In, 4:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

From 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. visit The Bee Project workshop at Robert A. Lee Recreation Center to make your own bees out of Recycled materials! All are welcome to this family-friendly free event for all ages. This workshop is made possible by Arts Share, the Grant Wood Art Colony, and Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department.

After the workshop head over to the Iowa City Municipal Airport! There will be goodies, activities, and tabling organizations starting at 6:30 p.m. Make sure to dress as your favorite pollinator to get a prize! The My Garden of a Thousand Bees film will start at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

9/22 – Defeat the Heat at the Senior Center, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Bring your own lunch and talk to local organizations about heat stress, and what they are doing to combat the urban heat island! We will reveal the results from out heat mapping campaign, Spot the Hot. A local NOAA climatologist will talk about the results and their CoCoRaHS program. A representative from Johnson County Public Health will talk about heat preparedness and how to stay safe in heat waves. There will be a door prize for one lucky attendee. We will have some light refreshments but attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch.

9/23 – EVs at the Farmers Market, 7:30 a.m.-Noon

Talk to locals about why they love driving electric. See these vehicles up close. We will also have one of our electric busses on site. Grab a zero bar and some National Drive Electric Week swag.
