Arizona Supreme Court Upholds State Abortion Ban, Mirroring Texas Supreme Court's Decision with No Exceptions

AUSTIN, TX - Yesterday, the Arizona Supreme Court upheld a total abortion ban with no exceptions – siding with a law that dates back to 1864. This decision comes months after the Texas Supreme Court ordered Kate Cox to risk her life by forcing her to carry an unviable pregnancy to term. Texans and now Arizonans are having their rights rolled back all because of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz – and the Texas Democratic Party is standing firmly against this campaign of cruelty.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“Here’s the bottom line: Denying Americans abortion care without exceptions is to deny the overall understanding of human rights, dignity and freedom. State Supreme Courts have a duty to rule in favor of justice, and MAGA Republicans on the bench have shown that their allegiance to Trump and his agenda to ban abortion nationwide knows no bounds. This year, Texas Democrats have the opportunity to restore humanity back to women’s healthcare by keeping Joe Biden in the White House.

“Additionally, Texans can and will send a message that this is not who we are by rejecting Ted Cruz’s extremism and electing Congressman Colin Allred to the U.S. Senate, who will fight to restore abortion rights for Texans. And, Democratic Texas Supreme Court nominees like Judges Christine Weems, Dasean Jones, and Bonnie Lee Goldstein will fight like hell against barbaric abortion bans in our state. The time to mobilize is now – and we’re ready to meet the moment at the ballot box this November.”
