November is a month for giving thanks. It’s also a time for gatherings, cooking and crafts. In this season, gratitude is the attitude, with something for everyone at our library events.

For many families, the holiday season is celebrated with epic family meals. Let me remind the cooks who want to wow their company that the library catalog has a tremendous collection of cookbooks. Plus, among our over 4,200 free downloadable magazines, there are many food and wine publications full of luscious recipes for the holidays.

November is also Native American Heritage Month. Planned library programs include a talk on Native American history in South Florida, a dreamcatcher crafting workshop, and an Indigenous Culture exhibit at the Bienes Museum of the Modern Book in the Main Library, built around 19th century rare books housed in our vault. You’ll find these events on the library’s Events Calendar.

In honor of Veterans Day, our VetFest celebrations include live concerts from the South Florida Chamber Ensemble and from SENIOR Moments - the Unforgettable Band, family book discussions, special guest speakers, bingo, JROTC Color Guard, films, an art lesson, book giveaways, and a super special day of recognition, respect, and recreation.

Be sure to circle Saturday, November 19 on your calendar as Veterans Family Day comes to Reverend Samuel Delevoe Memorial Park in Fort Lauderdale. This is a collaborative event hosted by Broward County Library, Broward County Parks and Recreation, and the Broward County Elderly and Veterans Services Division. The community-wide outdoor festival includes music, free food, face painting, a magic show, and vendor and information tables. Veterans, we salute you!
