City Of Belmont Announces List Of Certified Candidates For 2022 Election

The City of Belmont will hold a General Municipal Election on Nov. 8, 2022. This will be Belmont’s first election by district.

On April 12, 2022, Belmont City Council adopted by resolution four districts identifying election boundaries and determined that Councilmembers will be elected from District 1 and District 3 on the Nov. 8, 2022 general election as well as an At-large Mayor for a two-year term. District 2 and District 4 will hold elections in November 2024.

Warren Lieberman and Julia Mates qualified to run for Belmont Mayor. Michael Craig and Gina Latimerlo qualified to run for Councilmember in District 1 and Robin Pang Maganaris is unopposed for Councilmember in District 3. Candidate statements can be found on the City’s Website at https://www.belmont.gov/our-city/city-government/election-information/election-2022.

In addition to the City Council race, a measure was placed on this ballot by the City Council. Measure K asks voters whether to raise the hotel guest tax (also known as transient occupancy tax) from 12 to 14 percent. A simple majority is required to pass the measure.

In an effort to provide transparency in elections, candidate statements and candidate contact information is available, and future campaign finance statements will be posted as they are received.

For the ballot measure, the primary argument for is also posted to the City’s Election website Election and Voter Information | City of Belmont Rebuttal arguments are due August 29, 2022. The City Attorney’s impartial analysis will be posted once received.

Voters for the November election will receive a ballot along with a postage-paid envelope.

Sample ballots are scheduled to be mailed starting Oct. 18, 2022, and formal ballots will be mailed shortly after.

Early voting begins on Oct. 10, 2022, with three Vote Centers opening in San Mateo, Redwood City, and South San Francisco.

The deadline to register to vote for the November election is Oct. 24, 2022.
