Movie in the Park
Join us for the family-friendly hit, “The Bad Guys,” at Cottonwood Creek Park. Play in the park before the sun sets and follow it up by enjoying a night under the stars with a fun and free family movie. Bring your blankets and low-backed chairs. Picnic items are allowed, but please no glass containers. The movie begins just after dusk.

Free Smart Ways to Fight Food Waste Webinar
The City is sponsoring a free webinar hosted by the Solana Center. The virtual event will cover a wide range of topics, including:
-Practical methods to prevent food waste in home kitchens
-Where and how food is being wasted in the U.S. and around the world
-The social, environmental and economic impacts of food waste
-The best options to divert food waste that can’t be avoided

Please be advised that Tuesday Dec. 20 is the final day that building permit submittals will be accepted through the Customer Self-Service (CSS) portal before the City’s December holiday closure. We’d like to ask that you submit your building permit as soon as possible to meet the deadline for compliance with the 2019 codes, as opposed to the 2022 codes, which will go into effect after Jan. 1, 2023.
Cannabis Retail Registration Submittals
City staff has completed its review of the cannabis retail registration submittals. Pursuant to Measure H, each registration has been assigned to a lottery tier based on the number of criteria met. The City will now conduct the cannabis retailer lottery, which will take place on Friday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. The lottery will be live-streamed and recorded. The lottery will not be open for the public to attend in-person. The list of lottery tiers can be found on the Cannabis Ordinance webpage.

Free Backyard Composting Basics Workshop
The City is sponsoring a free composting workshop hosted by the Solana Center. The workshop will cover the following topics:
-What composting is and why it is so important
-Various types of compost bin options
-How to select which bin works best for your needs
-What tools and materials you need
-Understanding which items are compostable and which items to avoid
-How to build, maintain and troubleshoot a compost pile

Fair Housing Basics and COVID Updates
The City of Encinitas contracts with Legal Aid Society of San Diego to provide fair housing services to Encinitas residents and owners, including education and outreach. Join Legal Aid Society of San Diego for a free training open to anyone – applicants for renting, tenants and housing providers! Come learn about your rights and responsibilities under anti-discrimination laws as well as a brief update on Covid-19 housing issues.
