A Message from the City Manager, Roubik Golanian

I love the month of June. The weather is getting warmer, the grill is on, and the family is together! There are many things to look forward to this month in Glendale.

We have a new generation of Glendale graduates ready to embark on the next chapter of their journeys! Congratulations to all 2022 graduates! May you continue to accomplish great things; I know our future is bright in your hands.

Cruise Night is back in full swing for 2022! Get your family and friends together and join us on Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 5:30-10:30 pm. Swing by for a look at unique, classic, and exotic cars, eat delicious food, and listen to some fantastic music! Visit GlendaleCruiseNight.com for more information. Summer Concerts in the Park are also back at Verdugo Park on Wednesday evenings beginning July 6 at 7:00 pm. Click here for details.

Before I sign off, I’d like to talk about an upcoming, new federal holiday, Juneteenth Independence Day. June 19, 2022, marks the 157th anniversary of the last African American slaves being freed in Texas. This day of recognition, restoration, and celebration is commonly known as Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a great turning point for freedom in our nation’s history. It is a day to acknowledge our past faults, help heal current divisions, and move toward a future as a nation, more united. I encourage all Glendale residents to learn more about Juneteenth. Here’s a short article outlining its history.

As we settle back into our routines, I encourage you to get involved! There are openings in the Audit Committee, transportation and Parking Commission, and there is an opening for a student commissioner on the Sustainability Commission. Deadlines are coming up, so make sure to get your applications in!

I hope you have a great start to your summer, and I hope to see you around Glendale soon!
