Midland, MI - Creative 360 invites the community to attend the Artfest 55 exhibit opening and award ceremony. The annual festival celebrates the creative spirit of Michigan residents who are 55 and better and includes monetary award presentations for visual art, performance, creative writing and poetry. Refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome to this entertaining no-cost evening.
This year's visual art theme, Circles, Cycles, Orbits and Tides, generated more than 100 entries from artists all across Michigan. Mariel Versluis, M.F.A. Syracuse University. Professor, Program Chair, Printmaking Kendall College of Art and Design served as jurist. Prizes will be awarded in photography, 3D and 2D categories along with best in show.
Writing awards will be presented in the categories of memoir, short story, and poetry under the theme of Sentimental Journeys. Jurists for the writing competition, which includes more than 21 entries, are Betty Meyette, Luana Russell and Sara Yoder. The jurists are all retired English teachers from Midland Public Schools. Betty is also the author of the books Love's Spirit, Love's Destiny, Cavanaugh House and is working on her fourth novel. The winning entries in each category will be read at the event.
Guests will also enjoy six performances of music, dance and skits during the Senior Moments talent competition. Jurists Carol Speltz, Douglas Bloodgood and Janet Martineau will choose the winners in this category.

There is no charge to attend, but donations are always gratefully accepted. The Artfest 55 exhibit will be on display in the Creative 360 gallery through August 29.
