Mr. Paca's Garden Storytime

Tuesday, November 8

Join us for the fall session of Mr. Paca's Garden! Enjoy reading fun and activities in the Paca Garden, a secret treasure in the Historic District of Annapolis. Each program is designed for little ones (3-7 years) with a book reading, song, craft/art project, and garden time.  

This Week's Book - Veterans: Heroes in Our Neighborhood

 Let's honor and celebrate our veterans who have faithfully and diligently served in our armed forces. We will learn about the people who bravely served our great country and now humbly serve in our communities. We will have a “show and tell” so bring a picture or memento of someone in your family who is a Veteran. In honor of Veterans Day, we will be reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. 

Advance registration recommended; space is limited.

Time: Program, 10 - 11 am; Garden Time, 11 - 11:30 am

Location: William Paca House & Garden, 186 Prince George Street

Cost: $10 per Child and $5 per Adult for General Admission; $8 per Child and Free for Adults for HA Members and Military; $5 per Child and Free for Adults for Family Circle Members

Virtual Lecture - Stolen: Five Free Boys Kidnapped into Slavery and Their Astonishing Journey Home

Guest speaker Richard Bell discusses his research and story behind his book, Stolen, which covers the grim story of human trafficking and slave traders who ”stole” away thousands of legally free African Americans from their families in order to fuel slavery’s rapid expansion in the decades before the Civil War. His newest book tells of the odyssey of five free black boys kidnapped from Philadelphia in 1825 who were coffled to Mississippi for sale as slaves, only to escape, return and lead a manhunt to bring their former captors to justice.

An Evening of Revolutionary Music: A Musical Program Honoring Veterans

Friday, November 11

Join Historic Annapolis to honor and celebrate Veterans Day with a patriotic musical tribute by the accomplished musicians of Bedlam Colonial Music. The historic musical group will share a rousing program upbeat songs, marching tunes, and commemorative ballads, to include Yankee Doodle, The British Grenadiers, and A Toast to Mr. Washington.

Join us for this special musical tribute to America’s earliest Veterans.

Colonial garb is welcome, and program admission includes light table snacks. A cash bar will be available; patrons have the option to purchase a pre-paid dinner as an add-on.

Advance registration recommended; space is limited. 21+ only.

Time: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

His Majesty's Marines at Hogshead: Shore Leave 1772

Saturday, November 12

The British are here! His Majesty's Marines have been given shore leave and are taking a break from their revenue-enforcing duties. Come visit with the Marines in their land quarters at the Hogshead in Annapolis. It looks like trouble may be brewing in some of the colonies.  

A special talk, “Conversations with the General,” will be presented at 11:30 am and 2 pm. The Brigadier General will be discussing the situation in the colonies in 1772. 

Throughout the day, chat with other Marines to learn about their unique branch of service, the uniforms and kits they wear, the weapons they carry, and how they serve as sea soldiers across the empire and around the world – and they may even try to recruit you!

Time: 11 am - 3 pm

Hands-On History Day: A Salute to Veterans

Sunday November 13

Visit the Museum of Historic Annapolis on the second Sunday of every month for Hands-On History Days. Drop in any time between 10 am and 2 pm for special family activities - a new theme each month means you and your family will want to visit again and again! Activities are included with Museum admission, which is 1/2 price on second Sundays.

In November, join us for a Salute To Veterans!

-Explore Annapolis: An American Story and learn about our city's military history.

-Interact with living historians and veterans from our community, like Mr. James Diggs.

-Create your own poppy pinwheel and help us build a magnetic tile encampment.

-Examine cannonballs from the War of 1812 during our Curator's Corner.

-Read stories about veterans in our Anne Arundel County Public Library Book Nook.

Advance registration recommended. The special Curator's Corner experience will be offered at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm.
