Federal Funding Is Part Of More Than $8 Million That Congressman Jones Secured For Community Projects In NY-17 In The FY22 Omnibus Package; Joint Federal And State Investment Will Deliver Resources To Yorktown

Yorktown, NY — Today in Yorktown, U.S. Representative Mondaire Jones (D-NY) joined Yorktown Town Supervisor Matt Slater and local community leaders to announce $1.2 million in community project funding for Yorktown. The funding secured by Rep. Jones will be used in Phase 1 of the Hallocks Mill Sewer Extension Project, to build new sewers around Sparkle Lake, a local recreational area and part of the New York City watershed. The project will rebuild and upgrade sewer and pump systems in Yorktown, which will reduce public health risks and protect natural ecosystems. The federal funding will bolster local investments to complete this project.

“Beginning in early 2021, I spent close to a year advocating in Congress for funds for community projects throughout Westchester and Rockland Counties, and I’m thrilled to announce this funding for critical sewer infrastructure upgrades in Yorktown,”said Rep. Jones.“The Hallocks Mill Sewer Extension project represents a crucial investment in the resiliency of this community. This community project funding will be used to form detailed engineering design plans for the construction of new sewers around Sparkle Lake, one of the natural gems of our region. This marks a crucial first step in the broader Hallocks Mill Sewer District renovation program, a step that will allow Yorktown to move forward with this important project without putting an extra burden on the taxpayers.”

“This is how government should work—by finding commonalities that benefit the people we serve,” said Supervisor Slater. “We appreciate all of our partners in government who are supporting this important project and thank Congressman Jones for delivering this vital grant to Yorktown.”

From environmental restoration to infrastructure improvements to increasing the availability of public housing, the funding secured for community projects is critical to improving the everyday lives of the people in Yorktown and across the 17th Congressional District. Congressman Jones secured over $8 million in community project funding in the Fiscal Year 2022 omnibus package passed this year, and has fought for critical infrastructure investments throughout NY-17.
