More than 200 insurance professionals from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware convened at the ANE, Agency Network Exchange Annual Conference on April 17 to discuss business obstacles to success for independent agents in the insurance industry.
"Small independent insurance agencies face significant business challenges today from rising wages and expenses, and perpetuation planning to emerging web-based technologies that are changing the way consumers buy insurance," said John Tiene, CEO of ANE. "ANE's annual meeting brings member agents together to exchange ideas and best practices that address those challenges and to explore innovative, new ways of doing business."
Keynote speaker U.S. Paralympian Keith Gabel inspired attendees by discussing his personal journey as a left foot amputee who overcame homelessness, parental drug abuse and family trauma before losing his leg in an industrial accident just shy of his 21st birthday. Gabel is the defending X Games Snowboarder X Adaptive Gold medalist, a World Cup winner, and a two-time Paralympic medalist with a Bronze in the Sochi 2014 Games and a Silver in the PyeongChang 2018 Games. He is also an ambassador for Team for Tomorrow, a humanitarian program run through the U.S. Olympic Committee.
Gabel motivated agents with his message about the power of teamwork, setting goals and mental fortitude. "It doesn't matter what happens in your life. With the right attitude, with the right mindset, you can prevail."
ANE reported more than $32 million in new business written by network agencies in 2017. In the last three years, ANE members wrote more than $53 million in new business premium and paid more than $6.8 million in profit sharing to members in the same period. This growth distinguishes ANE as one of the most successful regional agency networks in the U.S.
The ANE conference was attended by independent agents and other insurance professionals from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. In addition to the keynote presentation, the event featured breakout sessions for agency owners, producers, account managers and CSRs.
