The Blue and Gold Digest - September 8, 2022

The Madeira Marching Mustangs would like to invite the Madeira community for a free preview of their 2022 competition show entitled “The Wonder Switch”. The performance will be this Friday - tomorrow - at 8 am at Madeira HS Stadium. The performance is in preparation of their first band competition which is scheduled for this Saturday at Troy High School.

- The MES Changing Hands Sale is this Saturday, September 10 from 9-1. Everything for newborns to teens for Fall/Winter will be sold. Come to Madeira Elementary School and shop to support the biggest fundraiser for Madeira Elementary School!

- Friday, September 16 the Homecoming parade will travel from Laurel Avenue to the high school beginning at 5:30. Riding with the Board of Education as their Honored Guests this year will be Jim Decatur and Phyllis Brower. Alumni are invited to stop by the Alumni Table at the entrance to the football game vs Finneytown beginning at 7:30 pm. Stop and shop for Madeira spirit wear at the game too!

- A fun way we’d like to promote having a better balance for our students, as well as our parents staying connected with their kids, will be through four Madeira Family Fun Nights during the 2022-2023 school year. On Madeira Family Fun Nights, there will be no homework assigned in grades K-12. The purpose is simple ..... to spend that time as a family having fun, eating together, playing a game together, and valuing the importance of our families. Our staff will be doing this with their own families. The first Madeira Family Fun Night will be Wednesday, September 28 - please submit a photo of your family having fun to [email protected]. Upcoming Madeira Family Fun Nights this year will be November 15, February 2, and April 17.

- Consider helping Madeira HS Key Club in stocking the shelves of the NEEDS Pantry (North East Emergency Distribution Services). Anyone can bring donations to the September 16 Homecoming Parade where Key Club will collect them as they walk! The most requested items are canned soups, vegetables, and beans, peanut butter, cereal, instant flavored oatmeal, hamburger and tuna helper, shampoo, body wash, and diapers. Visit https://cincyneeds.org/ for more information about the organization.

- Fall Walk to School Day is Wednesday, September 21. WEAR YOUR MADEIRA SPIRIT WEAR and walk, bike or roll to school with your family and neighbors! If you live too far to walk, park a few blocks from school and join in on the fun. Walking to school promotes exercise & health, saves gas, reduces pollution, encourages safety, and creates community fun! Walk to School Day is optional, buses will still be running. Sponsored by the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and Madeira Elementary School’s PTO.

- Senior citizens who are residents of Madeira are invited to the Fall Superintendent’s Community Coffee on Wednesday, September 21 in Madeira High School’s Perin Learning Commons. Join us from 9:30 - 10:30 am to enjoy a cup of coffee with Superintendent Kenji Matsudo and hear what’s going on in the district - and feel free to bring a friend.

- Attention MHS Alumni: applications are being accepted for the Ruth Slagle Crawford Alumni Scholarship.  This award of $5000 is awarded to an MHS alumnus who is currently enrolled for the 2021-2022 school year, and can demonstrate completion of the equivalent of a year’s worth of college credits.  All applications are due November 1, 2022.
