Miami, FL -- Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava released the following statement on the COVID-19 Omicron variant:

"We have come so far in the fight against this pandemic by following the data and science, and that’s exactly what we’ll continue to do as we monitor the development of the Omicron variant. This morning I was briefed by our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Peter Paige about Omicron, and alongside Dr. Paige and our medical experts we are closely tracking the latest data and information available.

We know that getting vaccinated is still the single most important action we can all take to protect ourselves and our loved ones against variants including Omicron, particularly as we head into the holiday season. And if you're 18 years or older and got fully vaccinated before June 1, you are also eligible to get the booster.

I urge our community to continue taking key steps to prevent the spread: Get vaccinated, get the booster, get tested if you’ve been exposed or have symptoms, and mask up in crowded public settings or around those you don’t know to be vaccinated. We are so lucky to live in South Florida especially this time of year, and spending time outdoors is a great way to gather safely with those we love this holiday season.

We’re proud that we have made COVID vaccines and testing extremely accessible across our community. Visit http://miamidade.gov/vaccine to find a vaccination or testing site near you. Miami-Dade has come too far, and we have made too much progress to go back – let’s continue to move forward together."
