It's wildflower season in Sonoma County, and we're in for a treat this year! While it's not technically a "superbloom," we can still expect an impressive and diverse display of native wildflowers. Due to extra rain this year, blooms are expected to start a little later and last longer, with greater overlap in species.

Some favorite parks for premium petal pops are Sonoma Valley Regional Park, Tolay Lake Regional Park, Helen Putnam Regional Park and North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve.

We'll be hosting guided wildflower walks on April 16 (9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.) and May 13 (9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.)

Celebrate a half-century of Spring Lake

What a difference a half-century makes! Development of the iconic Spring Lake Regional Park in Santa Rosa began 50 years ago (pictured above circa 1975). Since then, it has grown to be one of the most-loved parks in Sonoma County.

You're invited to help us mark this milestone: Join us on a series of outings this May to enjoy the park in all its Spring beauty, and see the improvements we're making to keep this parkland paradise aging gracefully. A vital partnership in our celebration of Spring Lake is the nonprofit Sonoma County Parks Foundation, which is fundraising for a new floating dock with an accessible kayak launch, updates to the Environmental Discovery Center and programming support for summer camps, teen programs and other youth activities.

We're hiring lifeguards and supervising lifeguards for the summer season. Positions start at $19.52 an hour, and bilingual guards receive premium pay. You don't need to have certification to apply; we'll pay you to attend the two-week certification academy.

Summer camps filling fast

There's still room in our summer camps at Spring Lake Regional Park!

Naturaleza Cura
Deepen your connection to the natural world and Latinx culture. Kids ages 9-12 will enjoy hiking, exploring, kayaking in the lake and swimming in the lagoon. Register: June 19-23; July 24-28.

Junior Guard Camp
Spend the week with our open-water lifeguards. Activities for kids ages 10-14 include stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, time on the inflatable Water Park and a final competition to showcase learned skills. Register: July 10-14; July 31-Aug. 4.
