AUSTIN, TX - Today, Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court taking up the Fifth Circuit’s decision on mifepristone — a safe and effective medication prescribed by doctors to manage miscarriages and administer more than half of the abortions in the United States:

“It’s abundantly clear that Texans' freedoms are under threat. If the Supreme Court restricts access to mifepristone – which is safe, effective and often medically necessary – it will be an alarming step towards MAGA Republicans’ goal of stripping away Texans’ reproductive rights and family planning decisions with a national abortion ban. Each time the GOP continues their extreme war on our freedoms and promises to go further – Texans become more entrenched against their authoritarian reign. We won’t forget MAGA Republicans’ attacks on reproductive rights and that our freedoms are at stake in November.”

President Biden and Vice President Harris will protect a woman’s right to choose, and they have a record of:

- Calling on Congress to codify the protections of Roe into law, restoring rights women relied on for nearly 50 years.
