History:

In 1878 Pete Snyder operated a trading post to sell items to buffalo hunters and settlers which was located on the banks of Deep Creek. He filed for land to begin a town in 1883, but it was not officially named 'Snyder' until July 2, 1907.

At about that same time Pete Snyder came to this area.J. Wright Mooar had a hunting camp on the banks of Deep Creek. On October 7, 1876, he killed a white buffalo northwest of where the Community of Snyder is currently located.

On November 21, 1948, Standard of Texas struck oil. The well was producing 532 barrels a day! Today there are 2,000 oil wells in Scurry County. Snyder became a 'boom-town, with it's population growing four times larger in a very short period of time. As the pace began to slow down the citizens began to concentrate on providng a town that would be good to raise children in and a place to be proud of.
