The Welfare United Methodist Church (better known as Verga United Methodist Church) has served the Verga community since 1917. Founded as the First Union Church of Verga, the first service was held on Thursday evening, September 6th, 1917 in a tent purchased by the Verga Fire Company for that explicit purpose. On October 2nd, 1917 the trustees of the church were instructed to purchase a lot on the corner of Mail Avenue and Crown Point Road for the purpose of constructing a permanent church for the Verga community. On November 7th, 1917 ground was broken for the construction of the church with the first service held in the new church on January 20th, 1918. In 1922, the trustees of the church voted to become affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 2003 to 2004 our church building underwent some renovating which brings it to its present state. For over eighty five years, the Verga Methodist Church has stood as the "hometown" community church of Verga. Our church has many fine organizations and activities that we are glad to share with Verga and the surrounding communities
