Dr. Blandine Laferrère, MD, PhD is an endocrinologist in clinical practice for over 30 years. She got her MD and a PhD in Human Biology in the University Claude Bernard in Lyon, France, did a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in endocrinology both in France and in the United States, and a post-doctoral research fellowship at MIT in the field of neuropharmacology of appetite regulation. Dr. Laferrère is a Professor of Medicine at Columbia University. She is a clinical researcher and holds a part time general endocrine practice within the Endocrine Division at Columbia University Medical Center with a focus on metabolism, obesity, type 2 diabetes and thyroid. With continuous NIH funding since 1998, she studies the mechanism by which obesity can lead to type 2 diabetes and how various types of weight loss interventions can improve metabolism or even put diabetes in remission. She currently investigates the effect of time restricted eating and sleep on metabolism in adults with prediabetes. She is the site principal investigator of a multicenter study investigating the effect of prediabetes, diabetes and metformin on brain health. Dr. Laferrère has over 130 publications and book chapters, has a national and international reputation in the field of obesity and type 2 diabetes clinical research, and is a reviewer for many European and American grant agencies.
