Catherine Appleton, MD

Kate Appleton, MD, is a fellowship-trained breast radiologist. She completed a seven-year combined BS/MD program at the University of Florida where she earned her medical degree with research honors. She completed her diagnostic radiology residency and breast imaging fellowship at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University (Wash U) School of Medicine in St. Louis. Practicing since 2006 as a board-certified radiologist, Dr. Appleton has special interests in breast cancer screening/diagnosis and image-guided interventional breast procedures/biopsies. Dr. Appleton’s career has included a faculty role as associate professor of radiology and chief of breast imaging at Wash U School of Medicine and Siteman Cancer Center. She has published more than 25 peer-reviewed articles, a breast imaging book, and is a contributing author in “A Women’s Decision,” a guidebook for patients facing breast cancer. As a member of the American College of Radiology (ACR) breast screening leadership group and clinical reviewer for the ACR Breast MRI accreditation program, Dr. Appleton is a nationally-recognized expert in breast imaging. She brings clinical expertise and a passion for providing patient-centric breast care, paired with extensive administrative and leadership experience.
