I chose to become a doctor because I enjoy helping people attain better quality of life. I enjoy giving hope and understanding to patients so they can feel empowered to manage their health challenges. I see my role as a healthcare guide for my patients. Goals of care are determined by my patient, and it is my task to provide my best advice and recommended treatments so that they can make an informed decision. I like to think that I treat the patient, not the medicine - if we can accomplish our goals without invasive treatment and/or medication, I consider that a success. For others however, medication is necessary, and I enjoy minimizing medication use as much as possible. My clinical areas of special interest include diabetes management, hypertension, kidney disease and mental health. Outside of work, I enjoy music, family time with my four kids and wife, and backpacking. I have goal to improve my Spanish capabilities in the clinic and to play the piano better.
