Harpreet S. Basran, MD, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified physician specializing in Sports Medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures to treat injuries in the shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. After years of playing and watching sports, the Chicagoland native felt that a career in sports medicine was a natural fit. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and completed two fellowships; a Sports Medicine, Knee, Hip and Shoulder Arthroscopy Fellowship, from the University of Chicago and a second fellowship at Cornell University Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Upon completing both fellowships, Dr. Basran returned to Chicago to practice medicine and be closer to his family. He provides non-operative management for all orthopedic injuries, including cutting edge stem cell procedures and operative management for injuries such as meniscal tears, knee ligament damage, rotator cuff tears, and labral injuries. Through compassion and understanding, Dr. Basran takes time to listen to his patients’ concerns and ensures that his clinical recommendations align with their goals. The strong connection he builds with his patients and community makes his work gratifying. Dr. Basran has had the pleasure of working with local teams such as the Chicago Blackhawks, the U.S. World Cup Soccer Federation, and local high schools and colleges. He is inspired by the drive and ambition that athletes have for their sports and feels privileged to be a part of their lives and teams by providing orthopedic care. Dr. Basran shares their appreciation for sports; he enjoys playing basketball in his free time, working out and spending time with his family.
