Jai S. Perumal, MD, is a neurologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Queens and an assistant professor of neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine. She is an attending neurologist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and faculty at the Weill Cornell Multiple Sclerosis Center. Dr. Perumal is fellowship trained in demyelinating disorders, including multiple sclerosis, and also has a clinical focus in Transverse myelitis, Optic neuritis, Autoimmune encephalitis, Neuromyelitis optica and neurosarcoidosis. She is interested in research on disease phenotypes, therapeutics, and ethnic influences on disease characteristics in MS and MS variants, including Devic's disease or neuromyelitis optica and central nervous system manifestations of systemic autoimmune diseases like SLE, sarcoidosis. Dr. Perumal presents her work at annual neurology meetings and conferences and is well published in medical journals. After graduating from Stanley Medical College in India, Dr. Perumal served her internship and residency in neurology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where she was named chief resident during her final year. She completed a two-year fellowship in clinical neuro-immunology and multiple sclerosis at Wayne State University affiliated hospitals. She received the Sylvia Lawry Fellowship of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and is a Feil Family Clinical Scholar in multiple sclerosis at Weill Cornell Medicine.
