About Dr. Lingle A high school conference about genetics and medicine is what inspired Dr. Ryan M. Lingle to become a doctor. Because Dr. Lingle is the first doctor in his family, his experience in medical school was vital in finding his specialty. “I decided to become a family doctor when I was in medical school and started working with patients. I found that I enjoyed being able to make connections with people and saw the value in being able to get to know my patients.” Dr. Lingle joins Beacon Health System as a family medicine doctor. Dr. Lingle completed his family medicine residency at Spectrum Health Lakeland Family Medicine. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Michigan State University and his bachelor of science in biology from Olivet Nazarene University. Beacon’s reputation helped Dr. Lingle decide to join the team. “My wife and I like the location. We heard good things about Beacon from friends in the area, and I felt very welcomed when I visited.” As for his practice philosophy, Dr. Lingle values connecting with heart by putting his patients first. “I think it is important to have patient-centered care and work with people to find out what the best option for their care is. I believe we get better outcomes when people are actively involved in their care and are part of the decision making.” Dr. Lingle wants his patients to know that he cares about them and that it is always ok to ask questions. As for what his patients have taught him? “Everyone is different and because of that, there is value in getting to know your patients.” In His Own Words What was your first job growing up? I was an assistant in the stockroom at the University of Notre Dame physics department. What is your favorite food? Movie? What was your best/worst subjects in school growing up? Favorite food is lasagna. Favorite movie is the Dark Knight. Math was my best subject in school and writing was my worst. If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Neil deGrasse Tyson because he has many interesting topics in physics that he can explain in a way that even I can understand. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? I enjoy watching college sports (football and basketball), and my favorite team in University of Michigan. What is something most people don’t know about you? That I can juggle.
