Shagun Saggar is board certified in hospice and palliative medicine and family medicine. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Loyola University in Chicago, IL and earned her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Edison, NJ. She completed her residency in family medicine at Resurrection Medical Center-Chicago. Saggar's practice is focused on providing continued palliative care. Dr. Saggar is a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and a diplomate of the Hospice Medical Director Certification Board. She is also a retired Major of the United States Army. In her free time, Dr. Saggar practices self care by doing Bikram Yoga on a regular basis. She also enjoys spending time with her children. Palliative care is often underutilized because of a lack of understanding. Many patients, when hearing this word, associate it with dying. Palliative care is not the same as hospice care, but, rather is an extra layer of support for patients and their families. This type of care should be part of the continuing standard treatment plan from the time of diagnoses of a life-changing serious illness. - Shagun Saggar, MD
